Our client wanted to expand their existing offer at Code Hostel in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. As part of our vision to redevelop the existing roof space into 8 boutique hotel rooms, we were tasked with redesigning the previously underused and uninspiring communal kitchen, dining and reception area, into a full bar and dining area with reception/ check-in for the hostel, future hotel guests and the wider public.
The palette of materials includes stripped back plaster walls to reveal the original stone, timber cladding to the new joinery pieces and the feature ‘king posts’ salvaged from the original roof structure in the attic – a planning and HES requirement. A backlit gantry creates the feature for the open plan space, with booth seating and glazed panelling to create cosy nooks for diners and drinkers alike.
